The Maryville Boys Tennis Team took to the road on a blustery Monday afternoon. Maryville traveled to Cedar Bluff Racquet Club to face Catholic High School in a non district duel match to wrap up the regular season. The conditions were just as tough as the opponents with player contending with 30+ mph wind gusts in addition to battling each other. Maryville would make it interesting with the Rebels snatching two of the six singles matches. Maryville would have to play flawless doubles on a day where the conditions were less than ideal. Maryville would challenge the Irish but Catholic would hold on to win the match with a 7-2 victory. Match of the day would come at number 5 singles as Maryville’s Matthew Gideon would make a come from behind victory, down 1-7, to force the match into a tie breaker. Gidieon would take the breaker 7-1 to win the match 9-8 to give the Rebels one of its two points on the day.
The loss puts the Rebels with a final record of 6-5 overall and 3-4 in District 4AAA play. Maryville will have a few days to regroup and prepare for post season play as Maryville returns to action on Friday and Saturday, weather permitting, for the TSSAA District 4AAA Individual Tournament. Draws for the tournament will be released on Tuesday evening, May 2nd.
