The Maryville High School Boys Tennis Team was back in action on Wednesday afternoon. The Rebels traveled to Gettysvue Country Club to face District 4LS powerhouse Bearden. Maryville looked to bounce back after dropping a match the day before.
Doubles first would be the way the day would start. Bearden would jump out first by taking Court 2 doubles as the duo of Zack Hull and Grant Duke would take an 8-3 win over Maryville’s Nathan Dockery and Eli Paszek. Not far behind was Court 1 as the Bulldogs would take that court with an 8-4 win as Bearden’s Jacob Person and Daniel Labrador would defeat Maryville’s Matthew Gideon and Luke Keller. Bearden led 2-0. Court 3 would have to wait a bit to play as they would end up having to wait for an open court to play. When play did get underway it would be a close battle. But the Bearden duo of Carson Maierhofer and Daniel Moon would prevail 8-6 over Maryville’s Andre Miller and Jude Ellison to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead heading into singles.
As singles got underway, Bearden would need just two of the six courts to clinch the duel match. Maryville would have a tougher task, needing five of the six courts. Bearden would continue to add to their lead as Jacob Person would claim Court 2 with an 8-0 win over Maryville’s Nathan Dockery to make the team score 4-0 Bearden. The Bulldogs were just one court away from clinching. Court 1 would come off next as Bearden’s Daniel Labrador would get the clincher in an 8-2 win over Maryville’s Matthew Gideon. With the duel match in hand, Bearden continued to roll as Grant Duke would take Court 3 with an 8-2 win over Maryville’s Eli Paszek to make the lead 6-0. Bearden would take another court as Zack Hull would defeat Maryville’s Andre Miller 8-0 to extend the duel match score to 7-0. Maryville would show some fight in the remaining two matches. Freshman Luke Keller would put the Rebels on the board with a hard fought 8-5 win over Bearden’s Todd Morgenegg. The final court would also go to the Rebels as Jude Ellison would also battle hard on Court 5 to win 8-5 over Bearden’s Ethan Jorgensen. Bearden defeats Maryville 7-2.
The loss drops Maryville to 5-7 overall and 2-5 in D4LS. Maryville gets back to it on Thursday afternoon in the finale of back to back to back road matches. The Rebels will pay a visit to their cross county rivals Heritage. Match time is set for 4:30pm at the Heritage High School Tennis Courts.
