The Maryville High School Girls Tennis Team wrapped up the final match of the regular season on Monday afternoon. Maryville played host to Knox West High School in the season finale. This would also be Senior Day for Maryville as seniors Noelle Beswick and Payton Murray were honored in a pre-match ceremony. Maryville would look to send their seniors out with a final win at home.

The day began with doubles being played first. Maryville would get on the scoreboard first as Angelique Beswick and Rachel Huffer would take Court 3 with an 8-1 win. With the lead at 1-0, Maryville would keep the scoring going as Senior duo Noelle Beswick and Payton Murray would get their final regular season win as a doubles team. Beswick and Murray would win 8-3 at Court 2. Maryville leads West 2-0. Court 1 doubles would be a tough battle. Maryville’s Dawson Baxter and Karie Schultze would outlast their opponents from West with an 8-5 win to give Maryville the sweep at doubles and a 3-0 lead.

As play moved to Singles, play began at the bottom half of the lineup due to the length of the Court 1 doubles match. Freshman Rachel Huffer would put her undefeated singles streak on the line. Huffer would remain undefeated as she would win 8-1 at Court 6 over Charissa Seals. Maryville leads the duel match 4-0. Maryville would be one court away from clinching the match. Angelique Beswick would give Maryville the clinching point. Beswick would defeat West’s Paige Nownes by a score of 8-2 at Court 5. With the match in hand, Maryville would keep the scoring going. Senior Noelle Beswick would take care of Court 1 as she would defeat West’s Sarah Grace Hollingsworth by a score of 8-2. Maryville leads 6-0. Maryville Senior Payton Murray would also get a singles win today as she would defeat Elizabeth Shuler 8-2 at Court 4. With the lead now 7-0 in favor of Maryville, the complete sweep would be two courts away. Junior Karie Schultze would add to the Maryville lead as she would defeat Caroline Morris at Court 3. With one court remaining, Maryville would lead 8-0. Court 2 would be the final court remaining. Maryville’s Dawson Baxter would outlast West’s Julie Post to give Maryville the complete 9-0 sweep over West.

The win puts Maryville at a record of 12-2 overall and a record of 8-1 in District 4LS. Maryville finishes the regular season in 2nd place in District 4LS. Maryville will be back in action on Thursday afternoon for the District 4LS Girls Tennis Team Tournament. #2 Maryville will face #3 Bearden for the right to play #1 seed Catholic. Match time is set for 4:30pm (5/2/19).

Maryville Seniors Noelle Beswick and Payton Murray wrap up an amazing regular season 4 year career. Beswick finishes her career with a singles record of 30-10 and a doubles record of 25-11. In District play, Beswick has a record of 16-6 in singles and 15-6 in doubles. Murray’s record is just as impressive. In her 4 year career, Murray has an overall singles record of 30-11 and a doubles record of 27-10. In district play, Murray has a singles record of 20-6, and a doubles record of 16-5. The team record for the Class of 2019 has been an overall record of 40-10 and a District record of 26-5. Beswick and Murray have been a part of back to back seasons of finishing District runner-up.
