The Maryville High School Girls Tennis Team Hot the road on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Rebels would travel to West Hills Park in Knoxville to face Karns in District 4LS play. Maryville would enter the day with an undefeated record in district play. The Lady Rebels would face the challenge of some of their regular players out of the lineup due to the Maryville Scholars Banquet and would rely on some of their lower seeded players to fill in. The Lady Rebels would have no problem rising to the challenge.
Maryville would begin the day with singles play. Freshman Rachel Huffer would take care of business at Court 4 with an 8-0 win to give the Lady Rebels the 1st point of the day. Sophomore Angelique Beswick would not be far behind as she would take Court 3 for the Lady Rebels with an 8-1 win to give Maryville a 2-0 lead. Junior Karie Schultze would come off next for the Lady Rebels to make it 3-0 as she would play Court 1 today and turn in an 8-1 win. The next point for Maryville would be the closest court that Karns contested. Maryville’s Payton Murray would battle to win Court 2. The Senior Co-Captain would get the win by a score of 8-4 to put Maryville up 4-0. With two singles courts remaining and the Doubles matches still to play, the Lady Rebels needed only one more court to clinch the match. Sophomore Olivia Larsen would step up today to give Maryville the clinching point with an 8-1 win at Court 5. Junior Faith Kirby would give Maryville the sweep at singles with an 8-1 win at Court 6 to give Maryville a 6-0 lead.
As play moved to doubles, Maryville did not let up The duo of Angelique Beswick and Rachel Huffer would step up a spot from their usual court and get the 8-1 win at Court 2 Doubles. The tandem of Schultze and Murray would also take Court 1 for the Lady Rebels by the same score of 8-1 to give Maryville a team score of 8-0. Court 3 doubles would also go to Maryville for the match sweep as the team of Olivia Larsen and Faith Kirby would also turn in a score of 8-1. Maryville defeats Karns 9-0.
The win improves Maryville to an overall record of 9-1 and remain undefeated in District 4LS with a 5-0 record. The Lady Rebels will get a few days to prepare for the tough part of their schedule. Maryville will play three matches in a row next week beginning with Catholic on Tuesday, Bearden on Wednesday, and Heritage on Thursday. All matches next week are on the road. Tuesday’s match with Catholic will be at Cedar Bluff Racquet Club in Knoxville. Match time is set for 4:30pm.
